Black History: #LeonBridges is recorded as the founder of the second #AfricanAmerican owned firm in #Seattle. He was born on August 18, 1932 in #LosAngeles, #California. In high school he was told by a counselor that he couldnt become an architect because he was black, and then while a student in high school he met his mentor, famed African American architect, #PaulWilliams. While a student at #UCLA, Bridges was drafted into the military in 1952, and was stationed in #Japan. While a soldier, he continued to study #architecture.

Black History: #PeterMarrayMarshall of #NewYork appointed to American Medical Associations House of Delegates. In 1931 Murray was the first African-American physician to become a certified Diplomate of the American Board of #Obstetrics and #Gynecology, and in 1949 he was the first #AfricanAmerican to sit in the #HouseOfDelegates of the American Medical Association, representing the Medical Society of the County of New York.

Black History: Alexander Murray Palmer Haley, better known as Alex Haley, was a celebrated #author whose books centered around #AfricanAmerican heritage. He was born on August 11, 1921 in #Ithaca, #NewYork to Simon and Bertha Palmer Haley. For the first few years of his life he lived in #Tennessee with his mother and grandparents, while his father was at #CornellUniversity studying #agriculture.
